What is First Year Experience (FYE)?

FYE at San Antonio College marks a transformative period in a student's life, filled with exciting challenges and invaluable opportunities for personal and academic growth. It's a time of exploration, where students immerse themselves in a vibrant community of learners, forging friendships and discovering new passions.

College life introduces young minds to diverse perspectives, challenging their thinking and broadening their horizons. From navigating the thrill of independence to managing rigorous coursework, the first year is a journey of self-discovery and resilience. FYE sets the stage for a fulfilling academic journey, shaping not just careers, but also the individuals they become.

What is EDUC-1300?

All first-year students are required to complete a Learning Frameworks course (EDUC 1300) designed to help them successfully transition to college. EDUC courses offer techniques in life-long learning, creative and critical thinking, time management, test and note-taking, studying, career planning, and building lasting relationships.

Entering students with fewer than fifteen (15) college semester credit hours are required to successfully complete an EDUC course during the first semester of enrollment (dual credit hours are not counted as college credit hours for this purpose). Students who do not successfully complete the EDUC course during the first semester will be required to complete the course the following semester.

“As a returning college student after an eight-year hiatus, if you anticipate challenges in certain classes, consider forming study groups with classmates and organizing weekly collaborative study sessions. It's even more beneficial if you choose a tutoring center that offers support specifically for the subject you find challenging.".” – Brandon Aviado
